Inclusive Learning

Foghlaim Chuimsitheach

St Brigid’s College believes that every pupil should have access to the full curriculum and the social opportunities available in school. Therefore, as a staff, we are fully committed to ensuring inclusion, providing the highest quality learning opportunities and outstanding support for pupils with additional needs. In order to achieve this, we cater for pupils across the five overarching categories of need: Cognition & Learning; Social, Behavioural, Emotional & Wellbeing; Speech, Language & Communication; Sensory and Physical Needs, to ensure that each pupil, across all abilities and ages, is supported in developing and realising their full potential.

To enable our pupils to learn, thrive and achieve, staff work in partnership with families and wider services, to implement the individual measures (Personal Education Plans) needed to overcome barriers to learning, and be a part of their educational journey. We aim, with the assistance of our Pastoral Care and Learning Support Team, to prepare our pupils thoroughly for adulthood, employability or further education. The school is dedicated to promoting the motivation pupils require to achieve their life goals.

Specialist Provision for Social & Communication Difficulties

Our Specialist Provision Centre for pupils with S&C difficulties offers a bespoke education plan for children with statements for Communication & Interaction Difficulties at Stage 3 of the Code of Practice. We aim to create a positive, structured and supportive learning environment, in accordance with the existing school policies, through which each pupil will feel safe, secure and access opportunities to develop individual skills within a mainstream setting.

Staff in the Specialist Provision Centre are passionate in their desire to see pupils blossom, develop the confidence and strategies to overcome the challenges associated with autism, and achieve success in life. The curriculum extends beyond traditional subjects providing opportunities to develop Social & Communication skills.

We offer: -

a broad and balanced curriculum; differentiated individual education programmes; small teaching groups; an emphasis on inclusive practice; and a planned continuum of integration, appropriate and relevant for each pupil, taking into consideration their individual needs.
